Ramadan Cleaning in Dubai: How to Prepare Your Office or Hotel

Ramadan changes how Dubai works. Business hours shift, foot traffic patterns flip, and commercial premises face a different set of hygiene demands than any other time of year. If you manage an office in Business Bay, a hotel in DIFC, or a retail space in Deira, you’ll notice it immediately.

Start With a Deep Clean Before Ramadan Begins

The two weeks before Ramadan starts are your window. Foot traffic is still normal, contractors are available, and you’re not disrupting fasting staff or guests. This is when you want to do the work that can’t happen mid-month: carpet extraction, upholstery deep cleans, kitchen degreasing, and air handling unit servicing.

Hotels in Jumeirah and Marina know this well. The ones that schedule their pre-Ramadan deep clean properly start the month with a clean baseline. The ones that don’t spend the first two weeks firefighting.

For offices, focus on high-touch surfaces, shared kitchen areas, and prayer rooms. These three zones carry the most hygiene risk during Ramadan and are the ones your staff notice first.

Rethinking Cleaning Schedules Around Fasting Hours

Daytime cleaning during Ramadan requires sensitivity. Strong chemical smells are harder to tolerate when staff are fasting. Noise from equipment can disrupt prayer times. And some of your cleaning crew may be fasting themselves, which affects scheduling and workload distribution.

The practical answer is to shift the heavy work. We move solvent-heavy tasks like floor stripping or carpet shampooing to after Iftar, when the building is quieter and ventilation can run longer. Daytime shifts focus on dry dusting, glass wiping, and waste removal, tasks that are effective and don’t produce strong odours.

For offices in Tecom and Al Quoz with later working hours during Ramadan, this often means cleaning teams arriving at 11 PM or midnight. We plan for that. Your regular contractor might not.

Prayer Room Cleaning: Get This Right

Prayer rooms in commercial buildings see far more use during Ramadan. Musallas in office buildings, hotels, and malls need cleaning multiple times a day. The floor coverings, wudu (ablution) areas, and shared items like Qurans and prayer mats all need specific care.

• Prayer mats: vacuum or shake out after each prayer time, deep clean weekly
• Wudu areas: disinfect sinks and wet floors at minimum three times daily
• Carpeted prayer areas: spot clean immediately, extract weekly
• Qurans and wooden stands: wipe with a dry microfibre cloth only, no chemicals

This isn’t complicated, but it needs to be explicitly covered in your cleaning schedule. We add prayer room protocols as a line item in every Ramadan contract, not as an assumption.

Iftar Traffic in Retail and Hotels

If you’re running a hotel in Downtown Dubai or a mall in Bur Dubai, Iftar is the busiest hour of your day during Ramadan. Several hundred people arriving simultaneously, moving through lobbies, restaurants, and corridors. Cleaning teams need to be positioned, not on a break.

We schedule a dedicated Iftar cleaning rotation that runs from 30 minutes before Iftar to 90 minutes after. This covers spills in dining areas, restroom maintenance, lift lobby cleaning, and entrance matting. The goal is that your space looks presentable throughout, not just before and after the rush.

Hotels in JLT and Marina deal with large Iftar tent setups. These require their own post-event cleaning protocol: table linen removal, floor extraction, and kitchen deep clean, typically running from 10 PM to 1 AM.

Odour Control in Food Service Areas

Ramadan food service runs at unusual hours. Suhoor prep from 2 AM to 4 AM. Iftar service from sunset. Kitchens don’t get the usual reset time. Grease traps fill faster. Exhaust filters clog. And the warm Dubai nights mean bacteria in drains multiply quickly.

Odour control in food service areas during Ramadan needs three things: daily drain treatment with enzyme-based products, weekly grease trap inspection, and exhaust fan cleaning every two weeks rather than monthly. We also use bio-enzyme sprays in bin rooms and cold store thresholds, areas that get ignored but cause most of the complaints.

If your kitchen staff report a smell that “wasn’t there before Ramadan,” it’s almost always the drain system. Catch it early. It’s a half-hour job on day one and a full day’s work by week three.
